Calling Students: Plan TEDxYouth at Andover

Idea Session Announced

An idea session in spring 2016 brought community members together to plan a TEDxYouth conference, slated for January 14, 2017. The conference, which will feature talks/presentations by Andover students, will serve as a platform to explore areas of interest at a campus, local, national, and/or global level. A follow-up planning session for students will be held at the Tang Institute on Friday, September 30, from 11:30 to 1 p.m. 

Share your feedback on the theme for a TEDx conference at Andover!

Students are invited to drop by the Tang Institute on Friday, September 30, from 11:30 to 1 p.m. for a snack and to share ideas, thoughts, and reactions on two themes that could guide a TEDx conference at Andover:

  • “What is our generation’s mission statement?” This theme explores the mission statement of “Generation Z” and the challenges and opportunities that are both present and possible for youth. Additional questions to explore under this theme could be: What must Generation Z pledge to do in order to resolve such challenges? Why and how is this generation uniquely suited to encounter challenge and opportunity? How can young people use available resources to render positive societal impact?
  • “Why do we have 10 fingers?” This theme challenges us to investigate what we ought to be doing, both individually and collectively. Under this theme, student-led projects—especially efforts with impact beyond Andover—could be featured during the TEDx as examples of how we can work together to maximize everyone’s potential. Related topics and questions include investigating the “ten fingers” theme through multiple lenses (e.g. through evolutionary, technological, or philosophical means)
