Developing Digital Tools: Knafel Map Collection

Knafel Maps

Phillips Academy’s geographer-at-large and library director are leading a collaboration to develop an online tool to allow students to create, tag, and add their own metadata layers to the digitized maps in the Knafel Map Collection. The approach will enable a more robust and dynamic engagement with the Knafel maps, while also enhancing student and teacher access to and research within the collection. Students will be able to embed text, video, audio, and images in order to add greater context and meaning to the digital maps. Ultimately, this project will contribute to long-term goals of using the map collection as a platform for powerful teaching and learning experiences on campus.
