Pat Farrell has been sharing his love of mathematics—and more recently, computer science—with young people for 40 years. Equally passionate about issues of social justice, he has served on Andover’s Access to Success and Antiracism task forces. He also taught for six summers in the (MS)2 program and four summers in the ACE program.
During his six-year term as dean of faculty, he was steadfast in his determination to increase faculty diversity. As one of the school’s math team coaches, he took the first team of Andover students to compete in the prestigious ARML competition. On the track, he has coached athletes in both the horizontal and vertical jumps, and, during his year as head coach, both the girls and boys teams took first place in the New England Championship meet. In 2019, Ferrell was a Tang Fellow, working on Enhancing STEM 100: Preparing Our Youngest Students for Success.
