This summer, the ethi{CS} project will host a four-part summer learning series on how to include race and ethics in your computer science or technology curriculum. If you’re interested in evolving your classroom to help shape conscientious coders, come join our conversation.
Offered via Zoom, the series is capped at 35 participants. Please sign up here. We ask you to complete an initial survey before the first session, and there will be some readings we’ll ask you to prepare ahead of schedule.

Friday, July 31, 12:00 p.m. (EST): Creating an Inclusive Classroom
How do you confront racism in your classroom? Using an anti-racist continuum of classroom dynamics, this workshop will help you determine where you are and where you’re headed in your journey as an anti-racist educator.

Friday, August 7, 12:00 p.m. (EST):Weaving Ethics into Your CS Curriculum Part I: “Issues”
How has technology impacted society? This session will provide a survey of algorithmic bias as well as some curricular case studies.

Friday, August 14, 12:00 p.m. (EST):Weaving Ethics into Your CS Curriculum Part II: “Imagination”
How can CS tools be used to build a world that we want to live in? In this session, we will explore fostering creativity and critical consciousness in Scratch assignment design.

Session 4
Friday, August 21, 12:00 p.m. (EST):Curriculum Hackathon: Your Turn to Create
Here’s your chance to put your learning into practice by creating new or reimagined lessons that incorporate equity, anti-racism, and ethics into your lesson plans. The group’s work will be packaged as a takeaway playbook for your classroom.
